Project Implementation
Hubei is where we implemented our first social water project, and Wuhan University is also home of our social partner, Wuhan University Qingquan Project. Although the tap water within Wuhan wis one of the cleanest in the nation, the same cannot be said of the neighboring counties.
In these counties, water treatment facilities are either nonexistent or outdated. In the most dire situations, villagers drink directly from water sources polluted with cancerouschemicals. Installing water filtration solutions will help remove these chemicals and give the children in Hubei a healthier, happier childhood.
Project Implementation
Guizhou is known to its visitors as a beautiful destination. Its mountain ranges are home to three ethnic minority prefectures. Economic development has introduced water pollution into Guizhou without accompanying solutions. Ironically, it’s Guizhou’s beautiful mountain topography that is slowing down the implementation of water treatment facilities.
Villages we visited are increasingly exposed to polluted water sources. We want our social water projects to be very first step in restoring clean and healthy drinking water to the children of these villages.
Project Implementation
Yunnan is home to some of the most beautiful places in China. Beyond travel destinations such as Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La, we visited some of the poorest regions in the Province. What we saw shocked us. In Jizushan, where there wasn’t a centralized water supply system, it was common for villagers to drink from wells with fishes living in them.
Yunnan’s legendary beauty was one of the reasons why we chose it as a destination for our social trips. But learning more about the local water quality has given us a reason to return. We hope to be back in 2015, this time with solutions.
Project Implementation
After our first trip to Southwest China, our water projects received a major boost in the form of RMB11.5 million worth of water filtration units donated by the Lan Qilin Charity Foundation.
Siyuan in Mandarin is a wordplay on the Chinese proverb, “饮水思源” which means remembering your roots.
These water filtration units represented an opportunity for us to give back to an area and its people that made Siyuan possible.
Fujian is home not just to Siyuan’s manufacturing base, but also to the hundreds of migrant workers who are working to supply Siyuan with the technology to supply clean water to China’s most far flung areas.
On January 25, 2015, Siyuan and Lan Qilin Charity Foundation signed an agreement with the Fujian government to bring these RMB11.5 million worth of water filtration units to the economically underdeveloped counties in Fujian.
We hope to replicate our success in Fujian across China in the coming years.
